Artist Bio
Eric Roberson, a GRAMMY Award-nominee, singer, songwriter, producer, professor, and Howard University alum, is a trailblazer in the music industry. Known as the original pioneer of the independent movement in R&B/Soul music, Roberson's career is marked by a substantial list of achievements, from writing and producing for notable artists such as Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, Dwele, and Vivian Green, to headlining sold-out tours across the country.
Celebrating over two decades as an independent artist, Roberson has been delivering "Honest Music" since 2001, a commitment that's given him a kind of artistic freedom that mainstream music seldom offers. "I was more than willing to take less to enjoy my passion. I was fortunate to be rewarded with a career...a career that I never dreamed of", he says.
In April 2022, Roberson released his 17th studio album, "Lessons". The lead single of the same name, released the previous year, was received with widespread critical acclaim. A subsequent remix featuring Anthony Hamilton, Raheem DeVaughn and Kevin Ross proved equally successful, and even resulted in a surprise performance at the Verzuz battle, featuring Hamilton and Musiq Soulchild in February 2022. Around the same time, Roberson also released his first book, "Lessons (100 Thoughts on Life & Love)".
In addition to his music career, Roberson has also been part of television. In January 2022, he was in the house band for Jimmy Fallon's comedy-variety game show, "That's My Jam". The hit series, where two teams of celebrities compete in a series of music, dance and trivia-based games for their chosen charity, was renewed for a second season by NBC.
Roberson is also an esteemed professor at the legendary Berklee College of Music in Boston, teaching songwriting and essentials of the music business. For Roberson, education is a two-way process: "I not only love teaching the students but learning from them as well."
Two-time GRAMMY Award nominee, winner of the BETJ Virtual Award for "Underground Artist of the Year" along with Rahsaan Patterson in 2008, and the first independent artist nominated for a BET Award in 2007, Roberson continues to blaze trails as an independent artist. Fulfilling multiple roles, from husband and father to music impresario, Roberson promises to continue expanding his influence in the music sphere. He indeed embodies 'The Process' - setting forth an example of perseverance, talent and relentless creativity.
