Michael Payne Jr., better known as Mr. Buddy, hails from Birmingham, Alabama, born to Reverend Michael Payne Sr. and Robyne Fluckers. As the second eldest in a family of five raised predominantly in West Palm Beach and Jacksonville, Florida, Mr. Buddy was immersed in a strong musical and theatrical environment from a young age.
This immersion nurtured a broad pathe towards multiple instrumental abilities, including the piano, drums, and trumpet, among others. Mr. Buddy's sound embodies a rich mosaic of influences as his background in jazz merges with genres ranging from 70's, 80's, and 90's funk, disco, big band, hip hop, classic and alternative rock, country, and neo-soul. He has a particular affection for the deep resonance of thick chords and bass lines, constantly pushing the envelope within his music.
Mr. Buddy's diverse interests and capabilities extend beyond music to stand-up comedy and acting. Proficient in over 50 voice impressions and physical comedy, his time at Bethune-Cookman University was spent studying Communication Studies with a Theater Arts concentration. He held various leadership roles including Vice President of the Thurgood Marshall University Debate Society and Public Relations for the Hispanic Organization for Latin Awareness. In addition to this, he is a reputable member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
Mr. Buddy's experience has seen him act alongside renowned comedians like Benji Brown, Tyler Chronicles, and Emmanuel Hudson. Pulling from past experiences such as being a kid-caster for Radio Disney, Mr. Buddy has developed himself into a true connoisseur of the arts. His work celebrates the essence of the two universal languages he holds dear: Music and Laughter.
Inspired by artists, comedians, and academicians, Mr. Buddy embodies his key belief: the goal of an artist, in the words of George Bernard Shaw, is to "create the definitive work that cannot be surpassed."
