Artist Bio
Hailing from the suburban realm of Valby and the rigorous, fast-paced world of inner city Copenhagen is the unique Danish artist, Calby. His passion for music developed from an early age; a product of his musicians' parents who regularly took him backstage at various Jazzhouses in Copenhagen. This early exposure paved the way for performances in smoky rooms within Christiania and Copenhagen's bodegas. Despite their youth, Calby and his associates were permitted to perform and even sneak out beers from behind the bar.
Calby's formal introduction to music started with his first study session at age thirteen, a journey that led him to Sankt Annæ Gymnasium and finally the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, where he refined his singing abilities.
His upbringing, musical experience, innate talent, formal training, and burning passion have all come together to form the foundation for his rare musical grandeur. This is most evident in his self-written music, a testament to his confidence in his abilities.
Captivating critics and fans alike, Calby's powerful singing voice and crisp guitar have been significant in driving his musical success. His unique blend of tradition and innovation in his compositions results in a sound that's undoubtedly fresh, yet timeless.
Calby's journey continues with 'Daydream,' the first release from his second album which is scheduled for release on November 3, 2023. His debut album 'Burnout' received stellar reviews and significant recognition: 'Gaffa' and 'Soundvenue' both gave it a five-star rating. The title track rapidly gained popularity, becoming the second most played song on P3 in 2020. It won the Carl Prize in 2021 for the Year's Most Played Song and has even achieved double platinum status.
Calby has experienced substantial recognition with nominations for two Danish Music Awards in the categories of the Year's New Live Name and the Year's Danish Radio Hit. All four singles from Calby have featured in the top 10 on the Danish Airplay Chart and his songs have amassed more than 23 million streams on Spotify.
Live performances comprising several tours across Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Germany have extended Calby's reach. His 2020 headliner tour sold out nine months in advance, setting a trend for all his subsequent performances in the major Danish cities.
